Judge of the State of São Paulo in 1962.
Appointed Judge of the São Paulo Criminal Jurisdiction Court in 1978.
Judge of the Court of Justice of the State of São Paulo from 1980 to 1984.
Appointed Minister of the Federal Supreme Court in 1984.
President of the Federal Supreme Court from 1991 to 1993. During his administration, he presided over the Impeachment Process against the President of the Republic, Fernando Collor de Mello.
Substitute Judge of the Superior Electoral Court from 1996 to 2000.
