Partner Rafael Gregorin speaks to Valor Econômico about the decline in federal tax assessments in 2025

Partner Rafael Gregorin, from our Tax practice, was featured in a Valor Econômico article discussing the 70% decline in the volume of federal tax assessments in 2025, while the total amount assessed remained virtually stable at BRL 221 billion, according to a study by the Brazilian Institute of Tax Planning (IBPT).

According to the partner, the reduction in the number of assessments, coupled with the stability of the amounts charged, suggests that the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service has been focusing its enforcement efforts on large taxpayers. He also highlighted conciliation programs and tax settlement mechanisms as tools that help taxpayers regularize outstanding liabilities before a formal tax assessment is issued.
