Anti-dumping investigation initiated on sorbitol
In brief
By determination of SECEX, an anti-dumping investigation was initiated on Brazilian imports of liquid and crystalline sorbitol (NCM codes 2905.44.00 and 3824.60.00) originating in China and India.
The product under investigation is a polyol (sugar alcohol) with the chemical formula C6H14O6, marketed in both liquid and crystalline forms and widely used in the food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and oral care industries, including applications as a sugar substitute, humectant and excipient.
Sorbitan sorbitol, a derivative of sorbitol with a different chemical composition, uses and applications, is excluded from the scope of the investigation.
The investigation may result in the imposition of anti-dumping duties for a period of five years, extendable, increasing the cost of Brazilian imports of the investigated product.
