Anti-dumping sunset review on magnesium metal initiated
In brief
SECEX initiated an end-of-period review of the antidumping duty applied to Brazilian imports of unwrought magnesium metal originating from China, classified under sub-items 8104.11.00 and 8104.19.00 of the Mercosur Common Nomenclature. The duty currently in force, equivalent to US$ 4.07/kg, will remain applicable during the review.
The procedure will assess whether its extinction would most likely lead to the continuation or resumption of dumping and injury to the domestic industry.
The investigation may result in the renewal of antidumping duties for a period of five years, extendable, keeping the cost of Brazilian imports of the investigated product high.

The importance of stakeholder participation
The active participation of importers, exporters and any other interested parties in the review can be decisive in ensuring a final determination more favorable to the interested party in question. Interested parties may request to be admitted to the process until 10/14/2026* provided that they demonstrate the degree to which they may be affected by the possible extension of the duty.
- Deadline for response to the Importer’s Questionnaire: 30 days from the acknowledgment of receipt
- Deadline for response to the Exporter’s Questionnaire: 30 days from the acknowledgment of receipt
As a rule, the public interest assessment can only be requested after the conclusion of the trade defense investigation, as established by SECEX Ordinance No. 282/2023.
