Rio de Janeiro repeals legislation that prohibited new tax incentives by the State

| On August 24, 2020, Rio de Janeiro’s legislative branch enacted State Law # 8,983/2020, reinstating the Rio de Janeiro State authority to grant new tax benefits and also validating the ones already granted by the Executive and Legislative branches, provided that duly authorized by the National Finance Policy Council (CONFAZ). The new rule entered into force and effect at the date of its publication, repealing Law # 4.321/04, which authorized the creation of tax incentives through Decrees, and Law # 7.657/17, which prevented their creation during the Tax Recovery Regime. |
